On the Ground with The Black Mambas

Our Story with The Black Mambas

We have supported The Black Mambas for years through the Izindlovu Fund, admiring their courage and commitment to protecting wildlife. This year, we deepened that connection by visiting them together with Luthando from Bitcoin Ekasi, allowing us to learn even more about their daily work and the challenges they face.

The Black Mambas

The Black Mambas are an all-female anti-poaching unit operating in South-Africa. They protect rhinos, elephants, and other wildlife through unarmed patrols, fence monitoring, and community engagement. Beyond safeguarding animals, they serve as powerful role models, showing young people, especially girls, that conservation and leadership go hand in hand.

Meet Up with The Black Mambas

During our visit, we shared our insights into Bitcoin, exploring how it could one day help strengthen their financial resilience. Because the Mambas currently rely on traditional financial partners and are not yet permitted to accept Bitcoin directly, we accept Bitcoin donations on their behalf. These funds are held securely in self-custody wallets until the Mambas need them.

This initiative is especially important because many children in surrounding communities lack economic education. By supporting the Black Mambas, we not only help protect wildlife but also contribute to women’s empowerment, community upliftment, and future financial education.

We hope to make a meaningful difference for both the rangers and the next generation — empowering them with knowledge, opportunity, and financial resilience.
